Sri Mayura Valli Thaayar,
Incarnate of Goddess Mahalakshmi
“Nandagam” – one of the “Panchayudha” of Sriman Narayan
while worshipping Mahalakshmi requested for “Tatvobadesam”. She promised to
give him the Upadesham at Mayurapuri in Bhoologa, which is the now Mylapore,
more so Mandaveli area, and to exact it She was born in a lotus flower as Brigu
Puthri on Panguniuthiram day.
She was called Bhargavi and also Mayuravalli
since she was born in Mayurapuri. Sri
Peyalwar worshipped her and got the “Thatvobadesam” from her at this kshetram.
After that Sri Mayuravalli, along with Sri Adikesava Perumal showers blessings
on one and all in this Divya Desam at Mylai. This avatharam of Sri Mayuravalli
Thaayar is described in the Garudapuraanam in the 4th chapter.
A belief (tried and tested by numerous)
Purchase a bell at the temple. Get the offerings to be
made. Offer to Sri Mayuravalli – get a personalized archanai done. The bells
are also kept at the feet of Thayaar and given to you. Then tie the bells on
the door of her sanctum. Take 12 rounds around her. Chant any mantra which
appeals to you. Some of the mantras given here in below as an annexure.
Take the Turmeric, Kumkum prasadam after the archanai.
Then get down to the Sankalpam for the Sri Suktam Vilva
Archanai on Fridays, in the shukra hora (Shukra hora is 6 am to 7 am or 8 to
9pm, this will give immense wealth), they repeat the Sri Suktam five times. Sit
through the pooja.
Then queue in for the prasaadam – the vilva archanai
leaves. Followed by a yummy paal payasam with some puliyodarai.
In between steal a darshan of the main deity, Sri Adi
Kesava Perumaal, Chakrata-aalwaar, and the mighty Anjaneya.
Lovely – serene atmosphere. Loads of flowers available
right outside the temple.
The temple has its own
goshala. Lovely looking Kapila cows stand erect to watch over the
vilva-archanai.
