of our human aura. The seven colours also represent the seven days of the week.
The chariot has 12 wheels representing the 12 Rashis in the horoscope.
How do we celebrate the festive occasion ?
By waking up before sunrise, and bathing with seven Arka leaves placed on ourselves in different places.
Ratha Saptami is celebrated an hour after Sunrise. The seven Arka leaves are places as follows :-
1. One leaf on the head
2. Two leaves - one on each of the shoulders
3. Two leaves - One on each knee
4. Two leaves - One on each feet.
Some people also just place all the seven leaves on the head.
A little rice/akshada is placed with some turmeric over the Arka leaves. Bath is taken by pouring water over the leaves, chanting any shloka in praise of the Sun God.
